Dr Alpins has been performing refractive surgery since 1984. He was one of the first surgeons in Australia to use the Laser Vision correction techniques and is a founding member of the Melbourne Excimer Laser group. Since 1991, he has treated over 20,000 patients for laser vision correction. He has invented new methods for treating and analysing astigmatism, and has developed the ASSORT® surgical software program that is used by ophthalmologists in Australia and overseas. He lectures at international conferences and contributes to scientific journals and ophthalmic information magazines on cataract, excimer laser, astigmatism and myopia surgery. He has been awarded with several International accolades. The most recent being honored with the 2014 lifetime achievement award by the International Society of Refractive Surgery (ISRS).
